TODAY'S GIFT is FREEDOM
Become a FREEDOM WARRIOR and get rid of SHAME
WITH YESTERDAY'S GIFT OF SEXUAL STYLE, I THOUGHT WE NEEDED TO ADDRESS SHAME AND VULNERABILITY.
Shame affects our self-expression, not just with sex but in most aspects of our life. Brené Brown is a safe and amazing "Vulnerability Researcher" who will change your life. She says that shame drives two stories we keep replaying in our minds, "I'm not good enough" and "Who do I think I am?" In sending you these 12 Days of Sexmás gifts, I have thought, I'm not good enough to even be sharing this with them because I have so much more to still learn. 😱 And then when I power through that thought and decide to put myself out there with a picture like the one that's posted above, the conversation shifts to, who do I think I am? Argh! It's a vicious cycle!
Your exploration is my exploration. We just might vary at the depths to which we are digging depending on our life circumstances. These gifts, however, are meant as building blocks to create a stronger foundation to go deeper within your self-discovery. Most people shy away from this because it brings up vulnerability that doesn't feel so good. We'd rather walk around feeling numbed out with a facade of "we've got this," then confront our feelings that lurk just below the surface and need some serious excavating.
Facades keep us distant, vulnerability connects us.
Another interesting note is that her research did in fact show a gender difference in how shame shows up. For women, shame shows up as "unattainable, conflicting expectations" (i.e., do it all, do it perfectly, look beautiful and never let them see you sweat). And for men, they have shame in being perceived as weak. If you never buy one of Brené Browns' books, do yourself a favor and at least watch these two videos. She is the real deal.

You will fall in-love with Brené's message, her stories, and realize how SHAME is an epidemic in our culture that keeps us disconnected from each other. FREEDOM from Shame and Guilt create a life of self-expression, creativity, passion and love.
